English class

Sentence:

“the military ruled Brazil during 18 years”

What’s the problem with this sentence?

1-we don’t use here the verb ‘during’. The correct verb is ‘last’ or without verb. We can use the word ‘for’.

2-the period of military government is 1964-1985 – lasted 21 years.

“THE MILITARY RULED BRAZIL FOR 21 YEARS” (duration, how long, much time)

DURING = when

Sentence:

“tough laws just one peril for day laborers”

Vocabulary:

Tough = hard, severe
Peril = danger (dangerous – perilous)
Day laborers = (diaristas)
Vacation = (férias)
Fool tickets = (vale refeição)
Bonus or christmas bonus = (13 salário)

Cultural information:
‘May day’ like our may 1st (in Brazil) doesn’t exist in USA. It’s a communist day.
